TAAS STAR PARTY AT CHACO CANYON
CHACO CULTURAL NATIONAL HISTORICAL  PARK – INTERNATIONAL DARK-SKY PARK
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY – JULY 5-6

**The first of the 2024 Chaco star party series, May 31-June 1,  had a dozen TAAS members with telescopes and binocs sharing views with visitors.  On both nights, a Chaco ranger gave a talk on the history of Chaco , protecting our night views and what to see through the eyepieces, all leading to two  nights of excellent observing of spring galaxies and other night sky objects for all!

The next Chaco star party will take place on Friday and Saturday, July 5-6–make those reservations!

************

For this occasion, there will be a full array of TAAS member volunteer scopes near the Visitor Center at Chaco Cultural National Historical Park, a World Heritage Site.  This is a great opportunity for them to share views of the universe and add to the experience of mystique and magic of this international Dark-Sky Park at 6,200 ft. for an early summer event!

Stargazing will take place from sunset until late evening on July 5 & 6, at the area behind the Visitor Center.  Solar observing will also be enjoyed before, if conditions allow.

Bring any food you may need for this time period, as the nearest supplies are outside the park, and dress for the season and area.

All visitors are encouraged to secure their own camping reservations for staying overnight to take full advantage of the famous Chaco park in daytime and night.  (Scope volunteers will have their own campsite).  Go to www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777 for reservations.  See Chaco website at  https://www.nps.gov/chcu/index.htm for full directions and description of area.

The TAAS coordinator for this event is Ed Juddo – ejuddo@gmail.com
(Information for TAAS volunteer members will be shared on TAAS Talk.)
