Description: This camera was introduced in 2005 and features a Kodak KAF-0402ME CCD with 765 x 510 9-micron square pixels and a temperature regulated thermo-electric cooler. I purchased it new in March 2008. I took many impressive images with this camera using my f/10 LX200. When used with a f/3.3 focal reducer (included) the resulting field of view is approx. 28 x 19 arcminutes. While the resolution of this camera is not as high as currently available mega-pixel cameras, it is nevertheless a serious astronomical imager costing far less. The CCD sensor in this camera offers superior Readout Noise (17e- RMS) and Full Well Capacity (100,000 electrons) to that of many current CMOS cameras. In addition, it features a 16-bit A/D converter for capturing a wide dynamic range of pixel intensities.
The camera was tested using legacy SBIG v 5.53 CCDOps Windows software (available for download from diffractionlimited.com). The image capture, FITS download, filter wheel/shutter and TE cooler are all fully functional. Not tested on other astronomical software applications (although current applications such as NINA claim native support for SBIG cameras).
Also included with this camera is a manual 2-speed Crayford Focuser, which is a must-have accessory for precise focusing.
