Description: The STV is an amazingly versatile instrument which can be used for imaging, autoguiding, and a number of different analytical functions. I purchased this unit new in Sept, 2000. The included LCD monitor allows images to be seen in near real-time, which is very convenient for conducting observing demonstrations before a group. With the eFinder adapter (included) the STV is particularly well suited for autoguiding. While tracking, the STV will present a display of both the instantaneous and average corrections in arcseconds as well as generate an audible beep when a guiding relay is activated. A separate computer is not required in order to utilize the STV. If desired, it does provide for remote control and image upload over a serial interface. This feature requires the “STV Remote” Windows software which is available for download from diffractionlimited.com .
The STV utilizes a TC237 CCD chip featuring 656 x 480 pixels and three binning modes. The camera is cooled with a single-stage TE cooler to 25 deg. C below ambient. An internal filter wheel provides a user selectable green (lunar) filter.
